The third Monday in January is said to be the most depressing day of the entire calendar year. But this does not have to be true for everyone. There are so many ways that you can keep yourself happy and energised on this Blue Monday. All you really need to do is come up with some things that you really love and do them. This can be a Monday just like any other Monday and hopefully this year you can escape the feelings of worry associated with it!
A little background on Blue Monday if you aren’t really sure what it is: a few scientists have claimed that this third Monday in January is the most depressing day of the year because of a variety of factors. The first of which being the weather because it is often so drab and bleak in January, the second being the fact that money might be really tight this time of year and the credit card bills are dropping through the post box. Last is that nagging feeling that you need to start doing more things in this New Year than you were doing this time last year.
All of this pressure put together is what really is supposed to make Blue Monday a testing day. The good news is that it really doesn’t need to be that way. All you have to do is look at all the great things. The holidays are over which means that there is a huge amount of stress off of your shoulders now that you do not have to entertain anyone, or go to parties and see relatives who you haven’t seen since you were twelve, it will give you more time.
The thought of doing new things this year should be planned. Setting unrealistic goals for yourself can be hard to handle, but that can be combatted by setting smaller and more realistic goals. This will keep you from getting overwhelmed and having to fear Blue Monday. Just keep in mind that you just got through what for some people is the happiest time of the year and now you just need to set your sights on all of the wonderful things that are coming in the New Year. There are so many amazing opportunities that come with a New Year that it can be contagious just thinking about them. No matter what you intend to do this year, there are sure to be things that you are looking forward to and can get excited about.
And, if you start to feel discouraged or have bad thoughts…… just remember that it is just another Monday.
